Kicked off by Carmen Nuzzo, Executive Director and Professor in Practice, TPI Global Climate Transition Centre (TPI Centre) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), this webinar first reviewed the TPI Centre’s banking sector methodology and assessment results, presented by Algirdas Brochard, Banking Project Lead, TPI Centre at LSE.
 
The third instalment of our annual banking report, State of the Banking Transition 2025, reviews the progress of 36 large global banks on the low-carbon transition. It applies two assessment elements: the Net Zero Banking Assessment Framework and Carbon Performance for Banks

During the panel moderated by Valentin Jahn, TPI Centre’s Deputy Director, Research and Operations, the panellists, Torsten Ehlers, Principal Economist, Bank for International Settlements, Office for the Americas and Sonja Gibbs, Managing Director and Head of Sustainable Finance, Institute of International Finance, explored a range of questions, including:
  • Implications of the results for market participants
  • How banks can balance the pursuit of financial stability and credit-fuelled growth with the transition toward low-carbon portfolios 
  • Effective policy measures to complement industry-led efforts to decarbonise the economy
  • How to channel capital to emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) 
  • Banks’ role in financing climate solutions
