1. The TPI Global Climate Transition Centre’s (TPI Centre) website is hosted and managed by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Data and information published on the TPI Centre’s website (‘TPI Centre Data’ as defined below) are subject to LSE’s terms and conditions below. You must read the following terms and conditions to ensure that you are complying with the requirements which are designed to safeguard the TPI Centre’s research outputs, whilst allowing public and free use of TPI Centre Data for the Permitted Uses without Authorisation or Licence.
2. References in these terms and conditions to TPI Centre Data mean any or all published data and information on the TPI Centre’s website about all its entity assessments, including the Carbon Performance data, the Management Quality indicators and scores, the Net Zero Banking assessments, the Net Zero Standards and the ASCOR (sovereign) assessments, as well as all related methodologies and information.
3. By accessing, downloading and/or using the TPI Centre’s Data, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to these terms and conditions.
4. LSE does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any TPI Centre Data. The TPI Centre’s Data do not constitute, or form the basis for, advice (investment, professional or otherwise), and the LSE and contributors to the TPI Centre’s Data do not accept any liability from any Party for any claim or loss arising directly or indirectly from any use of, or reliance on, the TPI Centre’s Data. It is for individuals and organisations to determine the most appropriate ways in which the TPI Centre’s Data can be helpful to investment processes or other intended uses.
5. The TPI Centre Data are viewable on the website and free to download without licence or authorisation by any organisation where the purpose does not fall under the Uses Subject to Authorisation or Licence set out in paragraph 7 and is a Permitted Use without Authorisation or Licence as set out in paragraph 6.
Permitted Uses without Authorisation or Licence
6. Below is a list of uses where downloading of TPI Centre Data is permitted without prior written authorisation or licence. This list is subject to review from time to time.
- For academic use for educational, research or training purposes by any higher education establishment, charity or not-for profit institution whose principal activity is to conduct education, training and/or research for the public benefit. Such use shall include but not be limited to dissemination of that research through publication and presentation for public benefit;
- For personal and informational purposes;
- For use by asset owners (i.e. pension funds, insurance funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments and foundations, family offices);
- For internal, non-commercial purposes by other parties, provided that the TPI Centre Data are used solely for exploratory, illustrative or validation purposes, including analysis that is preliminary in nature, and demonstrating concepts or testing purposes, where it is not relied upon as a primary input but only as a secondary or contextual input alongside other data sources;
- For engagement by investors with investee entities and for their proxy-voting activities; and/or
- For reporting and media purposes, including by journalists.
Uses Subject to Authorisation or Licence
7. Below is a list of uses of the TPI Centre’s Data that require prior written authorisation and/ or licence. This is subject to review from time to time.
- Downloading, reproduction, redistribution, republication, or transmission of any of the TPI Centre’s Data for any activity directly related to the generation of revenue or commercial compensation;
- Modification, reverse-engineering, or creation of derivative works from the TPI Centre’s Data related to the generation of revenue or commercial compensation;
- Use of any automated tools (including bots, scrapers, or spiders) to access, extract, or index the TPI Centre’s Data;
- Selling, leasing, sublicensing, or other ways of transferring any rights to the TPI Centre’s Data;
- Creation of any derived data and/or analytics directly related to the generation of revenue or commercial compensation;
- Creation of any index or fund (including where the index is used as the basis for the creation of a financial product, or where TPI Centre Data are a key constituent of a fund’s construction, namely if fund construction is performed systematically or via rules-based approach and incorporates TPI Centre Data either directly or indirectly through calculation or score that uses the TPI Centre’s Data).

9. Notwithstanding any other provision of these terms and conditions, none of the TPI Centre’s Data may be reproduced, except that you may reproduce an Insubstantial portion of the TPI Centre’s Data for the Permitted Uses without Authorisation or License. “Insubstantial portion” means limited extracts which, either alone or in combination with other extracts, have no independent commercial value.
10. Any permission, authorisation or licence granted to you or your institution is limited to the use case for which you or your institution have applied and none of the TPI Centre’s Data that you are permitted, authorised or licensed to access should be shared or otherwise be made available by you to any other person or entity for any purposes.
11. There may be additional terms of use for some data sources that the TPI Centre uses in its methodologies. Please refer to the individual methodology notes for Carbon Performance, Management Quality, Net Zero Banking Assessment, Net Zero Standards and ASCOR (sovereign) for a list of such sources. The TPI Centre’s analysts may use CDP data as a secondary input for verification purposes to produce the corporate data in addition to companies’ published sources.
12. When you use the TPI Centre’s Data you must provide proper attribution. Attribution statements should include the following: “Data sourced from TPI Global Climate Transition Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science”. Attribution for the Management Quality data should also include the statement, “Data sourced from TPI Global Climate Transition Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science, provided by LSEG, TPI’s Data Partner.”
13. LSE reserves the right to review requests and in the event of a suspected breach of these terms of use may conduct an investigation and take subsequent action to ensure compliance or authorise its data partners and/or other third parties to do so on its behalf.
