The Carbon Performance assessment of cement producers methodology note - version 4.0 outlines how major cement companies are evaluated against international climate targets, including the Paris Agreement. The methodology benchmarks companies’ emissions intensity against sector-specific decarbonisation pathways, enabling investors to assess how aligned cement producers are with the transition to a low-carbon industrial system.

Using the Sectoral Decarbonisation Approach (SDA), the framework translates global greenhouse-gas reduction targets into benchmarks for the cement sector. It compares companies’ emissions intensity - typically measured as tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of cementitious product produced - with these pathways to evaluate whether companies’ current and projected emissions trajectories are consistent with climate goals.

This 2021 methodology note represents an updated iteration of TPI’s Carbon Performance framework for cement producers.
