State of Transition report 2021

The State of Transition report 2021 provides a comprehensive assessment of how major global companies are progressing towards the low-carbon transition and aligning with the Paris Agreement. Covering 401 companies across 16 high-emitting sectors, the report enables investors to evaluate corporate exposure to climate risks and opportunities using publicly disclosed data.

Using TPI’s Management Quality and Carbon Performance frameworks, the report assesses both how companies manage climate-related risks and how their emissions trajectories compare with international climate targets. It finds that while most companies have implemented basic carbon management practices, fewer are taking a strategic approach to decarbonisation, with average management scores indicating only moderate progress.

The report highlights the gap between current corporate practices and the level of action required to meet global climate goals. It provides investors with a transparent benchmark to support engagement, portfolio analysis and decision-making in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
