ASCOR Explainer Series: Introduction

01 April 2025

The first in a series of 14 educational videos, presenting the ASCOR framework and its 2024 assessment results

The Assessing Sovereign Climate-related Opportunities and Risks (ASCOR) project is an investor-led initiative providing a free, independent and publicly available climate risk assessment framework for sovereign debt markets. Developed by the TPI Global Climate Transition Centre (TPI Centre) at the London School of Economics (LSE), ASCOR delivers transparent, comparable data on on how countries manage climate risks and opportunities. Covering emissions pathways, national climate policies and climate finance; assessing both transition and physical climate risks, the ASCOR tool supports investors, particularly sovereign bondholders in integrating climate considerations into investment decision-making. By strengthening climate risk assessment at the sovereign level, the project also supports improved engagement between investors and governments, helping drive accountability and alignment with the low-carbon transition. Covering a growing share of global emissions, GDP and sovereign debt markets, ASCOR is a leading resource for understanding climate-related sovereign risk and opportunity in financial markets.
