The Transition Pathway Initiative Centre (TPI Centre) has been awarded the
ESG assessment tool of the year – ratings in the 2025 Sustainable Investment Awards for its
Net Zero Standards Assessment Framework. These global awards seek to recognise asset managers, analysts and data providers incorporating ESG across all asset classes.
The TPI Centre's
Net Zero Standards Assessment Framework represents a groundbreaking, sector-specific tool for evaluating the readiness of companies in two sectors, oil and gas and diversified mining. These sectors face some of the most transformative and unique challenges in the low-carbon transition. The framework is a comprehensive set of indicators that assess the integration of climate targets into business strategies and capital expenditure plans.
The framework provides an aggregate company score across three categories: disclosure, alignment and climate solutions, which allow investors to compare the credibility of transition plans with a high degree of confidence. Developed in collaboration with the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), the framework sets a new benchmark for accountability in these two high-emitting extractive sectors.
By providing a robust and nuanced understanding of companies’ decarbonisation strategies—beyond headline climate goals—the framework enables a detailed examination of transition risks and opportunities.
In response to the award announcement, Seyed Alireza Modirzadeh, Project Lead, Net Zero Standards at the TPI Centre said:
“We are thrilled to be recognised with this award, underscoring the hard work by the team at the TPI Centre and our enduring collaboration with IIGCC. The framework is open source. This means key stakeholders, including investors, policymakers, companies and the public, can easily access our assessment methodology, data and findings on our
website.
“We are committed to empowering investors to evaluate the financial and strategic risks associated with different decarbonisation pathways while also promoting enhanced shareholder engagement with companies as they pursue diverse transition strategies to deliver on their climate targets.”
