The Net Zero Strategies assessment framework for oil and gas: methodology note - version 1.0 outlines how the TPI Centre evaluates the credibility of oil and gas companies’ transition plans against global climate goals, including those set under the Paris Agreement.

The framework provides a sector‑specific approach to assessing net zero strategies, examining companies’ governance, emissions‑reduction targets, production plans and investment in low‑carbon activities across their business segments.

Building on the Net zero standard for oil & gas, the methodology uses publicly disclosed data and a structured set of indicators to evaluate the alignment and robustness of companies’ transition strategies, investors to systematically assess transition risk and compare companies’ progress toward net‑zero alignment using a consistent, decision‑useful framework.

This 2026 methodology note represents the first dedicated TPI Centre net zero strategies methodology for oil & gas companies.
